BE – The resignation of the federal government dominated the Belgian media agenda of December 2018. Sports are also an important topic in the Belgian media. Companies and consumers are also part of the top trends of December, just like security issues. Further on follow the issues related to economy, health, culture and ecology. 

NL – Sports are most mediatised in The Netherlands in December 2018. Political issues also mark the news in December. Ecology and health are top trends in The Netherlands with 6% of the media interest. Economic and mobility issues are also important with respectively 5% in the Dutch media agenda.

BE – During this month of December 2018, the Belgian media emphasise more issues related to politics, Europe and migration issues, employment, culture and economy issues than the Dutch media.

NL – On the other hand, during this month of December 2018, issues related to housing and ecology were largely more covered in the Dutch media than in the Belgian media. The same applies for transport and mobility issues, sports and health and food issues.

NL – In December 2018, the top five issues gaining media exposure in the Dutch media are (1) security and justice, (2) population and association, (3) health and food, (4) media and (5) employment.

BE – In December 2018, the top five issues gaining media exposure in the Belgian media are (1) security and justice, (2) media, (3) transport, (4) economy and (5) population and association.

NL/BE Comparison – Belgium and the Netherlands share upward trends in security and justice, association and population, transport, economy, housing, technologies, companies and the media. Only 2 themes are different between Belgium and the Netherlands: (1) Health and food (increasing in the Dutch media, decreasing in the Belgian media) and (2) employment (rising in the Dutch media).

For the top 10 of the most mentioned brands in the Belgian and Dutch media, 3 brands out of 10 are found on both sides of the ranking.

1.Facebook is present in the Belgian and Dutch top 10. The brand is 1st in the Dutch and the Belgian media.

2.Google is present in the Belgian and Dutch top 10. The brand is 7th for the Belgian media and 4th in the Dutch media.

3.Apple is present in the Belgian and Dutch top 10. The brand is 4th in the Belgian media and 2nd in the Dutch media.

4.The brands exclusively present in the Dutch top 10 are Audi (3), Tesla (5), Unilever (6), Mercedes (7), RyanAir (8), Volkswagen (9) and ING (10).

5.The brands exclusively present in the Belgian top 10 are Twitter (2), Bpost (3), Huawei (5), Netflix (6), RTBF (8), SNCB (9) and RTL Belgium (10).
