Digital news of the decade

Digital news of the decade

We turn the page 2010s to enter the 2020s. But what were the major advances that have emerged in the last 10 years. Auxipress has conducted the investigation for you and has put together a list of the ten technological or digital innovations that have exploded in the last 10 years. No more time to lose, we start right away with ...

The Internet of things or more commonly known as IOT.

Although the technology has been around since the 1980s, it was in the 2010s that technology began to become more popular. At that time, there were less than a billion IOTs worldwide. While less than 10 years later, we count 3 connected objects per human on the planet. And the trend is not about to be reversed with the advent of 5G.

4G

Exactly 10 years ago, 4G technology was first commercialized in Sweden. And today this technology has become an absolute necessity for everyone and has become the standard. With more than 4.7 billion users, it is undeniable that the technology has become more than popular. The question today is, will the much more powerful 5G be as successful?

GDPR

“The General Data Protection Regulation is a regulation in EU law on data protection and privacy for all individual citizens of the European Union.” At its core, the GDPRallows EU citizens to have greater control over their personal data. The primary objective is to simplify the regulatory environment for businesses in order to give EU citizens and businesses the right to take full advantage of the digital economy.

Machine learning

Machine learning is not new, it is 60 years old, but it is only recently, thanks to the evolution of artificial intelligence, that we are beginning to get an idea of the full potential of this technology. Machine learning is an application of artificial intelligence that allows systems to assimilate, learn and improve automatically from experience without being explicitly programmed. You understand why that technology with so much potential will be standard in the future of software.

Social media

It is hard to deny that the use of social networks has done nothing but increase over the last ten years. Facebook had only 360 million users at the end of 2009, whereas today it has more than 2.5 billion. But what is important to note is the arrival of new social networks that have managed to make a name for themselves (or be bought out by Facebook) in recent years. We can mention Snapchat, WhatsApp, Tik-Tok, Instagram or the Chinese Weibo for instance.

Social Media Marketing

We couldn’t talk about social media without talking about this new trend of the 2010s. Companies are now using social network platforms to communicate directly with their audience. Whether to increase their audience, their sales or improve their image, most companies now have a social media strategy. And the amounts invested in these strategies on social networks are increasingly high.

Uber/Airbnb

It’s easy to underestimate the influence that companies such as Uber or Airbnb have had in the past decade. And yet their impact on our economy was substantial. So much in fact that we invented the term “uberization” to describe the way mobile technologies have changed how we consume or use existing services. In the case of Uber for instance, the app connects the client directly with the private taxi service.

Big data

Even though the term “big data” was first introduced long before 2010, it is in this last decade that the concept truly became relevant. Simply put, it describes the (very) large amount of complex data that is available to companies. Potentially used for business purposes, big data is very complicated to fully process.

Streaming services

In the last decade, streaming services have transformed the way we consume movies, tv shows or music. We now watch content “on demand” in the sense that we handpick what we want to watch from an ever-increasing catalogue of films and tv shows, and we watch it whenever and wherever we want to. Netflix for instance, a major stakeholder of these kind of services, had just over 12 million subscribers in 2010, compared to today’s 158 million subscribers. The number of streaming services available to us is also bigger than ever.
